Saniflo 023 SANICOMPACT Toilets is a self-contained toilet that's ideal for fitting into tight spots where conventional toilets can't fit. This modern shaped self-contained macerating toilet is very water efficient, using just one gallon of water per flush. It was designed with several purposes in mind such as limited space, green conscious users that want to save water, and for people with physical limitations requiring easy access to a toilet. The SANICOMPACT can be installed in many locations such as a loft/attic, upper floor, ground floor, basement and even a garage. It's very easy to install in areas such as under the stairway for a half bathroom or an additional half bathroom in a bedroom or garage conversion. It can handle the effluent from a toilet and sink. It needs no toilet tank as the flushing action and macerating pump cycle is automatic after pressing a push bottom (air switch) on top of the bowl. The flushing mechanism is electronically timed to allow approximately 1-Gallon of water to pass through the toilet. The discharge elbow on the back of the SANICOMPACT can be rotated 360 Degree to fit any type of installation requirement. A non-return valve, which comes already assembled on the discharge elbow, prevents back flow into the unit. The SANICOMPACT is a forced main and does not need to be vented and connected to a vent stack. Other fixtures may need to be vented as per local plumbing codes. It is also highly recommended for the macerator/pump to be connected to a Ground Fault Interrupter circuit.

Operated by an electronic program, it has 2 functions: with the push of a button the 25 second cycle is activated, macerating toilet waste and pumps it away to the drain. Also pumps water from the sink basin automatically. A modern and compact solution when adding a bathroom where traditional plumbing pipe is not convenient.

Installed this today, used Saniflo 023 SANICOMPACT Toilets twice, and it is a great little toilet.
I needed a quick install in the basement (remodeling the main bathroom), but didn't want the expense of a plumber breaking up the floor and running a standard drain pipe ($850 + new toilet). I saw this advertised on a home-improvement site, so I thought I would go with it ($623 delivered).
My first suggestion is installing the seat first, there are no instructions in the book on when to install it, so I thought just doing it last, wrong choice. You need to be a contortionist to get the screws in place after installation, so do it before you begin the other work.
Installation took about 2hrs, cost about $20 in plumbing parts: PVC pipe (45-deg bend, 1-ft straight pipe, y-fitting and a step down from the 1" pipe the unit requires to the standerd 1-1/2" drain pipe; for the water supply I needed a 1/2" T-fitting, about 3" of 1/2" pipe, and a step-down compression fitting.
The water supply is the second place where the instructions are off. It states that the water intake hose connects to a 1/2" compression fitting, it doesn't. You need a step-down compression fitting to go from the 1/2" supply pipe to the 3/8" fitting their hose requires. This part cost me an extra run to the hardware store to replace the 1/2" fitting I bought.
I gave this 4-stars because of the poor manual, the unit itself rates 5-stars. If you have a need for a toilet in an area that would otherwise require a difficult drain run, don't hesitate, this is well worth the money.
